Sports rehabilitation aims to treat injuries, alleviate pain and work on preventing injury reoccurrence. Sports rehabilitators can treat sports injuries as well as every day and occupation injuries, pain and musculoskeletal conditions. This can help people of all ages to maintain their fitness and health, prevent injury, recovery from an injury and reduce pain using exercise, movement and manual therapy techniques such as:
- Soft tissue therapy
- Taping for support/pain relief
- Manual therapy/manipulation
- Exercise prescription
- Gym & fitness programmes
An initial assessment will give the chance for the sports rehabilitator to provide an in-depth interview and physical assessment to identify an appropriate diagnosis and to look holistically at the client and identify any predisposing factors to injury and any other health related disorders.
Treatment will utilise evidence based therapeutic interventions and exercise and will be monitored and modified where needed. Sports rehabilitation takes a complete approach and considers the whole needs of the individual to allow an optimal recovery and places the patient at the centre of their own care. Treatment will be structured and planned together with the client to achieve their goals and to bulletproof the client from reoccurrence of an injury in the future.
The therapist will include a range of different fundamental components to successfully rehabilitate your injury. This will be achieved through pain management, flexibility and joint range of motion, strength and endurance, proprioception and coordination and functional rehabilitation to return you to your activity at the appropriate stage and to continue monitoring your training load.
